Word from Oxford

I am pleased to be a part of the team developing the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Anthropology, a monumental project designed to support anthropology teaching and scholarship in the digital age. We are creating a high-level, evolving, and up-to-date research encyclopedia for scholars and students of anthropology and related disciplines.

This dynamic reference resource is changing as the field changes and, in the long term, will reach an unparalleled level of comprehensiveness. It features vetted, cutting-edge overview articles on a wide array of specialized topics, organized across original, intellectually stimulating categories. The Encyclopedia is designed to present various perspectives on important approaches, issues, and topics, reflective of the tensions and debates that make anthropology such an exciting, dynamic field. Guided by internationally renowned researchers and scholars, the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Anthropology is well on its way to becoming a hub for the discipline.

The Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Anthropology also incorporates vanguard innovations in digital publishing. The Encyclopedia’s articles are published and updated on a continual basis and feature embedded multimedia content, cross-referenced links, and intuitive search and browse functions—all while maintaining the rigorous standards of top-quality, vetted scholarship that readers have come to expect from Oxford University Press.

We hope that you will continue to watch the Encyclopedia's evolution, and we hope that you will consider getting involved. Contributors to the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Anthropology are presented with a rare opportunity: each new article has the potential to become a definitive statement on its topic. The feedback you provide as a reader will also be essential as the ORE continues to develop through collaboration between Oxford University Press and the global community of anthropologists.

Yours,
Tim Allen
