Summary

A learned poet most famous for a grand hexameter Ekphrasis of Hagia Sophia that was performed in Constantinople during the ceremonies for the renovation of the church’s dome in 562/563. The many epigrams attributed to Paulus that are now preserved in the Greek Anthology reveal his more playful side. One of the most gifted and accomplished poets of his age, Paulus also served as chief silentiary in the imperial palace under Justinian and Justin II.
