Extract
Gnaeus Tremelius Scrofa, praetor, then proconsul in Transalpine Gaul, where he led an expedition towards the Rhine, before 67 bce, perhaps as the immediate successor of M. *Fonteius. He was Varro's colleague on Caesar's agrarian commission in 59 and was introduced by Varro into his De re rustica as one of the speakers, both because of his cognomen (= Sow) and because he had written a treatise on agriculture, later praised by *Columella for its elegance.Subjects
