Figure 6. Influences on ecological integrity. Ecological integrity (EI; the blue box) is related to the degree of naturalness of an ecosystem. EI may be degraded by anthropogenic stressors associated with pollution and disturbance, and also by management undertaken to increase the productivity of economically important bioresources (orange boxes). However, management undertaken to decrease the effects of any of those anthropogenic stressors may result in an improvement of EI.
