Summary

Islamic civilizations have had an expansive history of ethical deliberation and scientific advancement . Research ethics, which refers to the investigation of ethical questions within medical and social science research, aims to identify acceptable and unacceptable practices and behaviors when human beings are involved in experimentation. Islamic bioethical guidance, as articulated in the medical literature, suffers from a lack of standards. However, academics in Islamic studies have provided the medical field with critical tools for improved Islamic bioethical standards. The search for principles unique to Islam requires a deeper engagement with the tradition and its moral epistemic frameworks.
