Summary

The institutionalization of the welfare system in the country during the American regime is the backdrop for the emergence of social work as a profession. The tenacity of the seven social workers to formalize and incorporate the Philippine Association of Social Workers in 1948 provided the impetus to professionalize social work in the Philippines.
