Palaephatus, *mythographer, wrote (? in the late 4th cent. bce) a Peri apistōn, ‘on incredible things’, extant only in an excerpt, in which myths are rationalized. It had considerable influence in the Byzantine period. The name Palaephatus is perhaps a pseudonym.
